Focus on Education
An important component of Concordia Santa Fe’s mission is educational and community outreach. Concordia Santa Fe's music education projects provide students and adults opportunities to perform in high-level ensembles. Through these experiences students and adults work together to enhance their knowledge and hone their individual skills.
Musicians from Concordia Santa Fe serve as conductors and directors of these projects.
consists solely of students who are not yet ready to perform with the High Desert Winds. This ensemble explores the basics of wind and percussion fundamentals that are extensions of the students’ school programs. One or two performances are given each year by this group.
High Desert Youth Band is open to students in grades 7 through 12 who have at least two years of experience on a band instrument (woodwind, brass or percussion).
The band is under the direction of and coaching of professionals from Concordia Santa Fe.
is a community wind band whose mission is to provide music education experiences through the rehearsal and performance of challenging wind band repertoire. Participation in High Desert Winds is by invitation for adult and student musicians who are accomplished in music performance and are capable of performing challenging music, motivated to expand their musical knowledge, committed to regular individual practice, and agree to the rehearsal and performance schedule.
High Desert Winds is a project of Concordia Santa Fe, a professional-level wind ensemble serving northern New Mexico, whose purpose is to provide mentorship through the performance of wind band music.
Approximately 30% of the musicians in High Desert Winds are student musicians from the Santa Fe area. Of the adult musicians, 35% are teachers, most of whom are music educators.
