Santa Fe, New Mexico

The glassy surface of a still mountain lake; a glint of sunlight playing over adobe facades
and windows; scenes of childhood relived on a quiet afternoon.  Whether in reference to
memories or mirrors, the concept of reflection is pervasive in both the visual and performing
arts within our society.  The New Mexico Museum of Art’s upcoming exhibition, entitled
“Flux:
Reflections in Contemporary Glass,”
considers the sculptural possibilities of glass, from
vessel to minimalist sculpture, blown to cast glass, ancient artifact to popular culture icon.

In conjunction with this captivating visual display,
Concordia Santa Fe will present its own
interpretation of the theme in its second concert event of the year.  After the success of its
inaugural concert in June 2007,
Concordia Santa Fe recently completed its second concert
in March 2008. As a group founded by local musicians desiring a professional-level outlet for
wind and percussion music, the ensemble presents a delightful complement to the standard
operatic and symphonic fare offered in northern New Mexico. The wind ensemble, essentially
a symphony orchestra without strings, is a relatively new concept in concert music, but allows
for a vast palette of sound possibilities and connects well with both traditional and
contemporary musical compositions.

Concordia Santa Fe is comprised of some of northern New Mexico’s premier wind and
percussion musicians. The ensemble’s next performance will be led by Dr. Sarah McKoin,
Director of Bands at Texas Tech University and Associate Professor of Music.  She also
serves as Director of the Wind Ensemble at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North
Carolina.

Musical selections for the concert include the North American premiere of
“Reflections –
Serenade No. 2”
by contemporary British composer Guy Woolfenden, along with works by
David Del Tredici, Paul Hindemith, Darius Milhaud, and others.

The upcoming
“Reflections” performance will be presented at the St. Francis Auditorium of
the New Mexico Museum of Art at 107 West Palace Avenue in Santa Fe.  The concert begins
at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2008, with free admission and donations gratefully
accepted at the door.
